In the world of energy healing, there are many beautiful crystals people feel drawn to. Clear quartz, rose quartz, selenite, citrine, black tourmaline, moonstone, and so many others each carry their own unique presence, symbolism, and energetic feel. Some people love the gentle heart-centered energy of rose quartz. Others appreciate the clarity often associated with clear quartz, or the grounding feeling many connect with black tourmaline.

So rather than calling one crystal “the best,” we like to think of crystals as companions. Different stones may speak to different people at different times. Some work beautifully together, and many people find that their favorite crystal changes depending on what they are moving through in life.

With that said, this week we are shining a light on one of the most beloved and recognizable crystals in energy healing:

Purple amethyst.

Why Amethyst Is So Loved

Amethyst is known for its rich purple color, ranging from soft lavender to deep violet. For many, that color alone feels calming, peaceful, and spiritually uplifting. It has long been associated with quieting the mind, supporting reflection, and creating a sense of stillness.

In energy healing spaces, amethyst is often used as a crystal of calm, clarity, and spiritual connection. Many people are drawn to it during times when they want to slow down, breathe deeper, and reconnect with themselves.

It is not loud or demanding. Amethyst has a gentle, steady presence.

Amethyst and the Energy of Calm

One reason people often choose amethyst is because it is associated with serenity. In a busy world filled with noise, pressure, and constant motion, amethyst can serve as a beautiful reminder to pause.

For those who use crystals in meditation, Reiki, or personal reflection, amethyst is often placed nearby to support a peaceful atmosphere. Some people hold it during quiet breathing. Others keep it on a nightstand, altar, desk, or meditation space as a visual cue to return to calm.

The crystal itself does not need to “do” anything dramatic. Sometimes its greatest gift is symbolic: it reminds us to soften, release tension, and make room for stillness.

Amethyst and Intuition

Amethyst is also commonly associated with intuition and inner wisdom. Because of its purple tones, many connect it with the third eye and crown chakras — energy centers often linked with insight, spiritual awareness, and a deeper sense of connection.

For people who enjoy chakra work, amethyst may be used during meditation, Reiki sessions, or quiet reflection to support a sense of openness. It can be a meaningful crystal for those asking questions like:

What am I ready to understand more clearly?

What am I being invited to release?

What truth is already within me, waiting for quiet space?

Amethyst does not need to provide the answer. Instead, it can help create a peaceful moment where answers may feel easier to hear.

Amethyst as a Supportive Crystal for Reiki

In a Reiki setting, crystals are sometimes used to complement the peaceful environment of the session. Amethyst is a popular choice because its energy is often described as soothing, centering, and spiritually gentle.

It may be placed in a room, held during meditation, or used as part of a crystal layout depending on the practitioner’s style and the client’s comfort level. The intention is not to force an outcome, but to support an atmosphere of relaxation, reflection, and energetic balance.

Amethyst pairs beautifully with other crystals as well. For example, it may be used with clear quartz for clarity, rose quartz for heart-centered softness, or selenite for a clean, peaceful feel. This is why we do not need to rank crystals against one another. They each bring something beautiful to the table.

What Amethyst May Invite Us to Practice

Beyond its beauty, amethyst can serve as a reminder of the qualities many of us want to cultivate:

Stillness over hurry.

Clarity over confusion.

Trust over fear.

Reflection over reaction.

Peaceful awareness over emotional overwhelm.

When you see amethyst, you might use it as a small invitation to return to yourself. Take a breath. Relax your shoulders. Let your mind slow down. Ask yourself what you are ready to release and what kind of energy you want to welcome in.

A Gentle Way to Use Amethyst

Here is a simple practice you can try with amethyst:

Find a quiet place and hold the crystal in your hand, or place it near you. Take a few slow breaths. As you breathe in, imagine calm entering your body. As you breathe out, imagine stress, heaviness, or mental clutter softening and leaving.

You might repeat a simple affirmation:

I welcome calm, clarity, and gentle guidance.

Or:

I release what weighs on me and return to peace within myself.

This practice does not need to be complicated. The most meaningful rituals are often the simplest ones.

Our Crystal Highlight of the Week

This week, we honor purple amethyst as a beautiful crystal for calm, reflection, spiritual connection, and peaceful energy. We also tip our hat to the many other crystals that support people in meaningful ways. Every crystal has its own presence, and every person may be drawn to something different.

But if you are looking for a crystal that feels soothing, graceful, and deeply connected to inner stillness, amethyst is a wonderful place to begin. Let it remind you to slow down. Let it invite clarity. Let it support a moment of serenity. And most of all, let it help you create space to listen to the quiet wisdom already within you.
